Random Peaks
Description
Random Peaks is a sample & hold modulation device triggered by audio transients.
Inspired by the Expression Control device in Ableton Live which can generate random values from incoming MIDI notes, this Max for Live device generates random values from incoming audio transients which can then be used for modulation.
Quickly generate aleatoric patches with little effort. Create unlimited variations by selecting interesting audio sources and modulation destinations.
Example Usage
Simply place this device on the track that you want it to listen to. The audio coming into the device is analysed in real time and each transient that is detected will generate 6 random values which can be mapped to any other parameter in Live.
Put a synth on one track and a drum loop on another. Place Random Peaks on the drum loop track and watch the yellow spikes in the display react to the drum loop's transients. Press the Map button and switch to the track with your synth on it and click the filter cutoff parameter. Now each time a transient hits, the filter cutoff will change to a random value.
